It stewards more than 80 acres of parkland in Northern Manhattan, owns and operates more than 50 community gardens, and plants and distributes thousands of trees a year through free tree giveaways, which it has run since 2008. NYRP was the nonprofit partner in MillionTreesNYC and reports planting more than 200,000 trees since its founding.","website_url":"https://www.nyrp.org","logo_url":null,"founded_year":1995,"org_type":"nonprofit","scope":"local","headquarters":{"city":"New York","region":"New York","country":"US","lat":40.7128,"lng":-74.006},"volunteer_url":null,"donation_url":null,"events_url":null,"featured":false,"trees_on_record":200000,"primary_activity":"urban-forestry","activities":[{"slug":"urban-forestry","name":"Urban forestry","primary":true},{"slug":"reforestation","name":"Reforestation","primary":false},{"slug":"tree-adoption-giveaway","name":"Tree adoption & giveaways","primary":false},{"slug":"tree-care-maintenance","name":"Tree care & maintenance","primary":false},{"slug":"education-advocacy","name":"Education & advocacy","primary":false}],"updated_at":"2026-11-07T21:30:23.685Z","url":"https://treerm.org/org/new-york-restoration-project","markdown_url":"https://treerm.org/org/new-york-restoration-project.md","api_url":"https://treerm.org/api/v1/organizations/new-york-restoration-project","countries":["US"],"social_links":{},"programs":[{"slug":"tree-giveaways","name":"Free tree giveaways","activity":"tree-adoption-giveaway","description":"Free tree giveaway events for residents in all five boroughs.","url":null,"started_year":2008,"ended_year":null},{"slug":"american-chestnut-restoration","name":"American chestnut restoration","activity":"reforestation","description":"Plants blight-resistant hybrid American chestnuts in Highbridge Park with NYC Parks and the American Chestnut Foundation; launched the 1,000 Chestnut Challenge in 2025.","url":null,"started_year":2017,"ended_year":null},{"slug":"parkland-stewardship","name":"Northern Manhattan parkland stewardship","activity":"tree-care-maintenance","description":"Stewards more than 80 acres of parkland including Highbridge and Sherman Creek Parks.","url":null,"started_year":1995,"ended_year":null}],"metrics":[{"metric_type":"trees_planted","year":2024,"value":4500,"is_cumulative":false,"program":null,"source_url":"https://www.nyrp.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/NYRP-Annual-Report-2024.pdf","source_note":"2024 Annual Report: '4,500 trees were planted and distributed, 22 free tree giveaway events were hosted'","confidence":"reported"},{"metric_type":"trees_planted","year":2025,"value":4649,"is_cumulative":false,"program":null,"source_url":"https://www.nyrp.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/NYRP-Annual-Report-2025-.pdf","source_note":"2025 Annual Report, 'Our 2025 Impact': 'Planted and distributed 4,649 trees'","confidence":"reported"},{"metric_type":"trees_planted","year":2025,"value":200000,"is_cumulative":true,"program":null,"source_url":"https://www.nyrp.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/NYRP-Annual-Report-2025-.pdf","source_note":"2025 Annual Report, ED letter: 'Since our founding, NYRP has planted more than 200,000 trees'","confidence":"reported"},{"metric_type":"volunteers_engaged","year":2025,"value":1200,"is_cumulative":false,"program":null,"source_url":"https://www.nyrp.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/NYRP-Annual-Report-2025-.pdf","source_note":"2025 Annual Report: 'Welcomed 1,200+ volunteers'","confidence":"reported"},{"metric_type":"trees_distributed","year":2024,"value":75000,"is_cumulative":true,"program":"tree-giveaways","source_url":"https://www.nyrp.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/NYRP-Annual-Report-2024.pdf","source_note":"2024 Annual Report: 'giving away more than 75,000 free trees citywide since 2008'","confidence":"reported"}],"upcoming_events":[],"license":"CC-BY-4.0"}
