It is run largely by international residential volunteers and has since opened centres in Virudhunagar and Meghalaya in India as well as Haiti, Kenya and Namibia, where the focus is food forestry for food security. The Auroville site reports over 27,000 trees planted and about 100,000 naturally regenerated.","website_url":"https://sadhanaforest.org","logo_url":null,"founded_year":2003,"org_type":"community","scope":"global","headquarters":{"city":"Auroville","region":"Tamil Nadu","country":"IN","lat":12.007,"lng":79.8107},"volunteer_url":"https://sadhanaforest.org/volunteer/","donation_url":"https://sadhanaforest.org/donate","events_url":"https://sadhanaforest.org/eco-film-club/","featured":false,"trees_on_record":27000,"primary_activity":"reforestation","activities":[{"slug":"reforestation","name":"Reforestation","primary":true},{"slug":"education-advocacy","name":"Education & advocacy","primary":false},{"slug":"food-forests-orchards","name":"Food forests & orchards","primary":false}],"updated_at":"2026-11-07T21:30:23.685Z","url":"https://treerm.org/org/sadhana-forest","markdown_url":"https://treerm.org/org/sadhana-forest.md","api_url":"https://treerm.org/api/v1/organizations/sadhana-forest","countries":["HT","IN","KE","NA"],"social_links":{"instagram":"https://www.instagram.com/sadhanaforest/"},"programs":[{"slug":"auroville","name":"Sadhana Forest Auroville","activity":"reforestation","description":"Original 70-acre campus restoring Tropical Dry Evergreen Forest and recharging the water table on eroded land outside Auroville.","url":"https://sadhanaforest.org/auroville/","started_year":2003,"ended_year":null},{"slug":"food-forests","name":"Food forest centres","activity":"food-forests-orchards","description":"Centres in Virudhunagar (India), Haiti, Kenya and Namibia that plant food-bearing trees with marginalised communities for long-term food security.","url":null,"started_year":null,"ended_year":null}],"metrics":[{"metric_type":"trees_planted","year":2026,"value":27000,"is_cumulative":true,"program":"auroville","source_url":"https://sadhanaforest.org/auroville/","source_note":"Auroville centre page: 'We have planted over 27,000 trees' and 'about 100,000 have naturally regenerated'; Auroville site only, not other centres","confidence":"reported"},{"metric_type":"volunteers_engaged","year":2026,"value":1500,"is_cumulative":false,"program":"auroville","source_url":"https://sadhanaforest.org/auroville/","source_note":"Auroville centre page: 'Over 1,500 volunteers from 50 nationalities each year'","confidence":"reported"}],"upcoming_events":[{"slug":"eco-film-club-forest-tour-documentary-and-vegan-dinner-2026-11-13","title":"Eco Film Club: forest tour, documentary and vegan dinner","event_type":"other","starts_at":"2026-11-13T11:00:00Z","ends_at":"2026-11-13T15:30:00Z","city":"Auroville","is_virtual":false,"registration_url":"https://sadhanaforest.org/eco-film-club/","url":"https://treerm.org/events/sadhana-forest/eco-film-club-forest-tour-documentary-and-vegan-dinner-2026-11-13"},{"slug":"saturdays-at-sadhana-forest-breakfast-cow-connection-workshop-plant-based-cookin","title":"Saturdays at Sadhana Forest: breakfast, cow-connection workshop, plant-based cooking class and tour","event_type":"training_workshop","starts_at":"2026-11-14T03:30:00Z","ends_at":null,"city":"Auroville","is_virtual":false,"registration_url":"https://sadhanaforest.org/plant-based-saturdays/","url":"https://treerm.org/events/sadhana-forest/saturdays-at-sadhana-forest-breakfast-cow-connection-workshop-plant-based-cookin"},{"slug":"vegan-potluck-at-the-tea-hut-2026-12-05","title":"Vegan Potluck at the Tea Hut","event_type":"community_meeting","starts_at":"2026-12-05T12:30:00Z","ends_at":null,"city":"Auroville","is_virtual":false,"registration_url":"https://sadhanaforest.org/potlucks/","url":"https://treerm.org/events/sadhana-forest/vegan-potluck-at-the-tea-hut-2026-12-05"}],"license":"CC-BY-4.0"}
