## About

Eden: People+Planet (formerly Eden Reforestation Projects) began in 2005 near Hawassa, Ethiopia, and employs local community members to plant and protect mangrove and dry-deciduous forests. It reports working in Kenya, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia, Nepal, Honduras and the Philippines. In June 2024 the organization renamed itself and shifted from large-scale tree-planting counts toward carbon-eligible, landscape-scale restoration financed by blended philanthropic and carbon-market funding; in November 2024 it ended its partnership with its implementing partner in Madagascar. Its 2022-2023 report cites over 1 billion trees planted by end of 2022, while its current About page cites over 500 million.

## Programs

- **Rubeho Mountains Landscape Restoration (Tanzania)** — Carbon offset planting: Carbon-eligible landscape restoration project across 394,000 hectares and 40 villages in Tanzania's Rubeho Mountains, financed through blended philanthropic and carbon-credit funding under a 40-year commitment. https://www.eden-plus.org/

## Metrics

> Note: Eden's 2022-2023 annual report says it had planted over 1 billion trees by the end of 2022. Its current About page says it has worked with communities to plant over 500 million trees. Both are Eden's own figures published at different times, and Eden has not published a reconciliation; the directory shows the dated report figure.

| Metric | Year | Value | Cumulative | Program | Confidence | Source |
|---|---|---:|---|---|---|---|
| Funds raised (USD) | 2022 | 36,300,000 | no (that year) | organization-wide | Self-reported | [source](https://eden-plus.org/resource/eden-annual-report-2022-2023/) '$36.3 million in contributions for 2022' |
| Trees planted | 2021 | 358,000,000 | no (that year) | organization-wide | Self-reported | [source](https://eden-plus.org/resource/eden-annual-report-2021/) 2021 annual report summary page: 'planting 358 million trees (a 98% increase from 2020)' |
| Trees planted | 2023 | 73,000,000 | no (that year) | organization-wide | Self-reported | [source](https://eden-plus.org/resource/eden-annual-report-2022-2023/) 2022-2023 annual report summary: '73 million trees in 2022-2023' (two-year combined figure) |
| Trees planted | 2022 | 1,000,000,000 | yes (to date) | organization-wide | Self-reported | [source](https://eden-plus.org/resource/eden-annual-report-2022-2023/) 2022-2023 annual report: 'planting over 1 billion trees by the end of 2022'. Kept as the cumulative figure because it is dated and report-based; the current About page (read Nov 2026) says 'over 500 million trees' with no date. HQ Glendora, CA confirmed via IRS Form 990 listing (ProPublica, EIN 95-4804581); country list matches the About page. |

Confidence: self-reported is the organization's own published figure; independently verified means a third party confirmed it; estimated means TreeRM derived it and the note says how.
