## About

Trillion Trees is a partnership formed in 2016 by BirdLife International, the Wildlife Conservation Society and WWF and publicly launched in London in November 2017 as a 25-year initiative to help protect and restore one trillion trees by 2050; its website now describes it as 'the united force of BirdLife International and WWF'. Hosted c/o BirdLife International at the David Attenborough Building in Cambridge, UK, it channels funding through a ReForest Fund to partner-led restoration landscapes in countries including Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Indonesia, Kenya, Laos, Mexico, Tanzania and Papua New Guinea, and publishes forest-policy analysis such as assessments of national climate plans (NDCs).

## Programs

- **ReForest Fund** — Reforestation (2021–present): Grant fund channelling donations to partner-led forest restoration landscapes run by BirdLife, WCS and WWF offices in countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Indonesia, Kenya, Laos, Mexico, Tanzania and Papua New Guinea. https://trilliontrees.org/reforest-fund/

## Metrics

> Note: The founding year 2016 is when the partners formed Trillion Trees, as stated in its own 2016-2020 impact report; the public launch was in London in November 2017. The tree and hectare figures cover only ReForest Fund grants since 2021, not the partner organizations' wider forest programmes.

| Metric | Year | Value | Cumulative | Program | Confidence | Source |
|---|---|---:|---|---|---|---|
| Hectares restored | 2024 | 367 | no (that year) | ReForest Fund | Self-reported | [source](https://trilliontrees.org/?p=3927) 2024 Impact Report: 367 hectares restored across 10 ReForest Fund landscapes in 2024 |
| Trees planted | 2024 | 246,696 | no (that year) | ReForest Fund | Self-reported | [source](https://trilliontrees.org/?p=3927) 2024 Impact Report (ReForest Fund projects): 'restored 246,696 trees and 367 hectares during 2024' |
| Trees planted | 2024 | 526,123 | yes (to date) | ReForest Fund | Self-reported | [source](https://trilliontrees.org/?p=3927) 2024 Impact Report: 526,123 trees planted or regrown by ReForest Fund projects since 2021 (excludes the partners' wider portfolios) |

Confidence: self-reported is the organization's own published figure; independently verified means a third party confirmed it; estimated means TreeRM derived it and the note says how.
